Following some email correspondence with the Ordnance Survey, I have been informed that the OS grid reference for Rockall given on my website was incorrect. This has now been updated with the correct grid reference as provided to me by the OS.

Today I spoke with Tom McClean on the telephone. It was very helpful to chat to him and he provided me with quite a bit of information regarding his stay on Rockall which is not in the public domain, as well as some good advice regarding comfort, water, shelter and rations. In addition, I found some ITV news coverage of Tom's landing on Rockall in 1985 which shows the potential sea conditions very well:
I was informed in a conversation with the Northern Lighthouse Board today, that the navigation aid on Rockall was washed away two years ago and that they have no plan to replace it! This not only demonstrates the issues of weather in this location but also removes one possible method of getting to Rockall for me, that of hitching a ride with the annual maintenance crew.
